Matching & Accurarcy
Why didn’t my hike match a mountain or trail?
Last updated Apr 28, 2026
If a hike doesn’t match a mountain or trail, it’s usually due to how GPS data lines up with known locations.
Hikers Challenge automatically matches your GPS tracks to mountains and trails based on proximity and route overlap. If a hike doesn’t match, it typically means your track didn’t come close enough to the target or the data wasn’t precise enough.
This can happen due to:
- GPS signal loss or low accuracy
- Route variation from official trails
- Tracks that stop short of a summit or segment
Even small gaps in GPS data can affect matching. In most cases, uploading a more complete or accurate track will resolve the issue.
